STRUCTURE MANICURE: A BRIEF SUMMARY
- Ideal for clients who desire stronger nails, at their natural length and often longer – while avoiding nail enhancements with stronger chemicals such as acrylic.
- How it works: cuticles are prepped with an e-file, to make the nail bed longer (if desired) and clean away cuticle matter otherwise hard to reach with a traditional soak in water.
- Why do cuticle work with an e-file and will it damage the natural nail?
- A proper dry manicure uses a very specific set of drill bits that are not coarse and designed to file only the cuticle matter, not the nail itself. You can reassure clients that any staff who performs services with an e-file at Spa Solai has passed vigorous testing and meets our standard of excellence.
- We do not soak the nails for these services because soaking will make the nailbed swell and become soft – it is a contraindication for using with dry manicure bits and e-files. For these same reasons, we also forgo using cuticle cleaner for these services.
- If a client would like the elements of a pedicure (soaking, scrubbing and massage), let’s explain to them these aspects of a pedicure service will all happen after the builder gel (or hard gel if we are re-building toe nails) and gel (aka Shellac) have been completed.
- Why is this a healthier and overall better option than offering acrylic?
- Structure gel manicures are at the forefront of the nail industry and is limitless in what they can achieve (compared to acrylic): they are just as strong, can be worn at any length and support any design all without the toxic chemicals found in acrylic polymer (powder) and monomer (liquid).
- Overall, structure gel manicures are seen in the nail industry as a more premium service than acrylic because it involves detailing the cuticles close to perfection and eliminating the need to soak off gel polish or a dip manicure each time: the less we disturb the natural nail and the more it is supported (adding builder gel or hard gel make the nail less flexible and prone to breaking or splitting). The only time we will ever come into contact with a client’s natural nail is their first time getting a structure manicure set (a “set” means starting from nothing on the nail to building structure on all fingers).
- Structure gel is also less damaging than acrylic in that it never uses the same drill bits commonly used with acrylic services: never filing on the natural nail with coarse grit bits or cabriite/tungsten drill bits which often result in catastrophic nail damage like rings of fingers and overall leading to thinner nails.

We use Dazzle Dry, a nontoxic and hypoallergenic nail polish that dries within 5 minutes.
For our shellac, we use CND Shellac.
